This bibliography offers lists of candidate and doctor dissertations presented on the history of present-day Kazakhstan from 1935 and 2002. The list is geographically extended to varied regions of Central Asia as well as Western Siberia, with particular interest in the history of Russian Turkistan and European Russia. It is divided chronologically into three parts: (1) the dissertations of the Soviet period till 1990 (with inclusion of works in philosophy, philology and economy); (2) those of the period from 1991 to 2002 (with particular representations of studies in diplomatic history and history of economic and cultural exchanges); (3) those dealing, from 1983 to 1994, with the history of the Kazakh Communist Party (earlier dissertations on this subject being classified in a separate index). Among the numerous absent ones from this very classical catalogue, the periodisation of which remains absolutely the same as during the last years of the Soviet period, one remarks for instance that of studies in the history of religions (some references being included in different chapters of cultural history, others in the chapter on ethnological and ethnographical studies of Kazakhstan).
