Reviews

This disc is entirely devoted to the repertoire of Uzbek dutar (two-silk-stringed lute). It focuses on the instrument, its solo use and various rhythmic and melodic capacities, and the different techniques of playing. G. Muminova plays different repertoires, including popular songs from varied regions, old compositions, and of course pieces from different regional versions of the shash-maqam (Khwarezm, Fergana & Tashkent, and Bukhara). She uses several dutars chosen according to pieces. In his comment J. During discusses the history of the dutar in Central Asia and its variants, and explains the different playing techniques. So the present disc offers a complete view and hearing of this emblematic instrument.
