On the basis of recently edited texts of the Gurughli epic cycle (S. Ruzimboev, ed., Khorazm dostonlari: Gurughli, Urganch, 2004), the author, studying the beginning and closing formulas of varied ‘subcanals (shokhobchas)’ of the Gurughli cycle, traces similarities between Uzbek, Turkmen and Karakalpak versions of the epic in Khwarezm.  She notably casts light on the essentially elliptic character of Khwarezmian versions—if compared with Eastern Uzbek ones, and with manuscript written versions preserved in the Biruni Institute of Tashkent.
