The Qipchaq/Cumans were expelled from the Pont steppes by the Mongols, and in 1239 they took refuge in Hungary. As a result, about two hundred proper names (personal, place, and ethnic denominations) and dozens of common nouns of present-day Hungarian language are of Qipchaq origin. In the present article, twenty or so ethnic names and their variants are examined.
