Comparing the respective works of early-twentieth-century theoreticians of the Jadid movement and present-day Muslim intellectuals of the Middle-Volga Region like Rustam Batrov or Tävfik Ibrahim, the author observes among the latter, beside their systematic use of the models of their rehabilitated predecessors, a much more audacious and iconoclastic relationship to the Sunna. Now considered a set of texts elaborated under pressure of historical circumstances, the Sunna is considered by some as a simple corpus to be de-sacralised.
