The author of this short lampoon soundly deplores the lack of research on political institutions and organisations of the city of Ura-Teppa in the crucial years 1916 to 1922; he discusses varying assessments on the origin and role of the ‘Russian Popular Detachment (russkaia narodnaia druzhina)’ which held the town under its control from February to June 1918; and calls for more subtle investigation on the causes of the famine that stroke the city between 1918 and 1920.
